Vietnam. Some of the MIKE Force insignia in my collection.

Three recent additions to my Australian airborne collection. So far, only the patch on the bottom right has a definitive ID. It is for the Australian Defence Force Parachute Association (ADFPA) and was produced in June 2023 - about 25 were made and were effectively used as business cards at the UK Armed Forces Championships in Netheravon in July.

More chook shit. Shown is a late 1980’s/ early 90’s morse practice kit as used by SASR reinforcements doing the SAS Patrol Signaller’s course conducted by 152. Effective long range communications is vital to the success of SAS patrols operating the enemy’s rear areas and back then a great deal of effort was placed on HF communication training including a basic proficiency in morse code. To that end, students were issued these practice kits consisting of a morse key, earpiece, CW (morse) tapes and Datong D-70 morse code generator for their listening pleasure. The latter, powered by a 9v battery, would send an endless stream of five letter groups and what better way was there, than to spending an evening in the lines having one’s eardrums bombarded by all those dits and dahs?

This rare original Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) / Special Air Service Zippo lighter previously belonged to 29707 Joseph Flannery MBE, an original member of the AATTV. It is one of two of his lighters that I own and one of the most prized in my collection.

Chook shit. I found some of my old army notebooks whilst looking for something last night. Saved between the pages was this sketch that I did of a morse key from one of the HF radios we used. Scary to think that the real thing would be a museum piece these days.

Burundi. Parachutist qualification and beret badge worn by members of the Burundi National Defence Force (Forces Nationales de Défense du Burundi / FNDB).

Here are a couple of pieces from my French Indochina collection. Shown are the Commando 610 beret and enamelled breast badge used from 1951 – 1954. Both were made by the Drago company in France.
