‘A Bridge Too Far’ – Arnhem 1944
On 17 September 1944, the Allies launched Operation MARKET GARDEN, the ill-fated attempt to create a 103km corridor through German occupied Netherlands, capturing a series of bridges which would allow Allied forces to cross the Rhine. The bridge farthest north lay at Arnhem and in other reviews I covered the principle museums in the area, notably the Airborne Museum ‘Hartenstein’, Glider Collection Wolfheze, Arnhem Oorlogsmuseum 40-45 and its offshoot, the recently opened Out of Ammo Museum. Here is a link to the classic 1977 war movie ‘A Bridge Too Far’ – Arnhem 1944. Watch the full movie and learn about the British paratrooper’s ill-fated operation to seize the bridge.
