SAS Reference – The Regimental Identity, Insignia and Traditions

The Regimental Identity: Insignia and Traditions, produced by the Special Air Service Regimental Association and written by Patrick Baty, is a compact reference that explores the relationship between the Regiment’s history, its insignia and its traditions. Originally intended as an in-house SAS publication for newly badged soldiers and members of the Regimental Association, the book is now available for public purchase in limited numbers (see below).

Published in 2025, this 86-page hardback is an official regimental publication, providing a brief history of the SAS alongside an account of the development of its insignia and traditions. Drawing from regimental archives and specialist collections, the book contains 123 illustrations and has been meticulously researched and verified.
